Everyone is invited to submit a Poem or Visual Work of Art on these themes:

Racial Identity, Racial Justice


All submissions will be included in a virtual exhibit; poetry winners will be asked to read their poem aloud and art winners to explain their inspiration in a video.

Virtual Symposium - Colorism: It's More Than Skin Deep - Three Part Video

Location: Zoom room

Date: September 17 - 19  Time: 10:00 AM 11:30 PM

 This symposium will engage parents, teachers, community and youth in an honest and meaningful dialogue about colorism--differential treatment based on lightness or darkness of skin color.

  • Funded by a New Hampshire Humanities grant and by our sponsor Kennebunk Savings
  • Supported by SAU 16


PANELISTS

  • Dr. Kabria Baumgartner is Assistant Professor of American Studies at the University of New Hampshire. Ph.D. African-American/Black Studies, University of Massachusetts. Scholar of 19th-century African American history, literature, and culture. 
  • Dr. John Frederick Bell is Assistant Professor of History. Ph.D. History of American Civilization (American Studies), Harvard University.
  • Dr. Aria S. Halliday is Assistant Professor of African Feminism in women's studies at the University of New Hampshire. Ph.D. Purdue University.
